The course of Malarone should begin 1 to 2 days prior to travelling to an area where malaria is more common. Once arrived, take Malarone for the duration of your stay, with one tablet taken once daily with food to effectively prevent malaria.
You should continue to take Malarone for a minimum of 7 days after you leave the area in order to destroy any parasites present from an infected bite.
If you miss a Malarone dose, take a tablet as soon as possible. Do not take more than one dose a day, so skip the missed dose if it is close to the time of your next dose, and continue your regular schedule of one tablet daily.
In cases of vomiting within one hour of taking Malarone, you will need to repeat your dose in order to replace the lost medication. This will ensure you are adequately protected against malaria. Once you have repeated the dosage, continue to follow the course of Malarone as normal.
It is safe to consume alcohol whilst taking Malarone. However, the possible side effects of dizziness may become worse in combination with alcohol. As alcohol can also increase the chances of vomiting, ensure that you are adequately protected with a repeated dose if vomiting occurs within one hour of the Malarone dosage.
You should stop drinking alcohol if vomiting or dizziness occurs.
Malarone has been known to cause feelings of dizziness, which can make you feel tired. In cases where tiredness occurs after taking Malarone, it is recommended that you get some rest to avoid tiring yourself out or making side effects worse.
