During short maximal efforts, the muscles mainly use glucose as an energy source in which lactic acid is produced. Lactic acid then splits into lactate and hydrogen (H+) ions. Contrary to popular belief, it is the accumulation of H+ ions, and not lactic acid, that increases the level of acidity in the muscle. At first, the muscle can neutralize these H+ ions by means of carnosine (= a buffer in the muscle). As the effort progresses, the formed H+ ions will exceed the buffer capacity of the muscle, after which the H+ ions will accumulate in the muscle. That process, better known as “acidification,” ultimately results in decreased strength production and muscle fatigue, resulting in performance loss.
Research, by Dr. Roger Harris among others, has shown that a long-term intake of beta-alanine (e.g. CARNOSYN®) increases the amount of carnosine in the muscle. Studies over the same period also showed that this in turn leads to increased buffering capacity and improved athletic performance. A recent review has also shown that these performance-enhancing effects occur mainly during short (0.5-10 min) maximal efforts. The minimum dose of beta-alanine needed to obtain that performance improvement is, on average, 179 g. That corresponds to a daily intake of 3.2 to 6.4 g of beta-alanine for 4 to 8 weeks. For maximum effect, the “recharge period” can be extended to 10 to 12 weeks. After that, supplementation can be interrupted for 10 to 15 weeks or a maintenance dose (±1.6 g per day) can be taken. In addition to improved performance during short maximal efforts, it has also been shown that long-term ingestion of beta-alanine can improve sprint performance at the end of a long endurance effort.
6d Beta-Alanine contains 800 mg of beta-alanine per tablet. Studies have shown that the beta-alanine in the tablets of 6d Beta-Alanine is better absorbed in the muscle because of its gradual release into the body, especially when the beta-alanine is taken with a meal. The annoying skin tingling (paresthesia) is also absent when 2 tablets (= 1600mg) are taken simultaneously. If you choose a beta-alanine powder or “standard” capsules/tablets, symptoms of paresthesia already occur at intakes from 800mg.
In summary, 6d Beta-Alanine is extremely suitable for all kinds of athletes who have to deliver a maximum effort (several times) for a short period (0.5-10 minutes). These short maximum efforts occur, among others, in athletics, rowing and swimming, but also in endurance sports such as cycling (e.g. steep climb or the final of a race). Finally, team athletes, such as soccer players who often have to sprint briefly and intensively during a match, can also benefit from a supplementation with beta-alanine.
How to use
- Take 3 x 2 tablets per day, preferably with a meal, starting 6 to 12 weeks before an important competition.
- After the recharge phase, a maintenance dose of 2 tablets per day is sufficient.
- After long-term consecutive use, a break of 10 to 15 weeks is recommended.
- Never take more than 2 tablets at a time to reduce the risk of skin tingling.

Supplement seems genuine but delivery was slow. Will give it another try as the product is good.
