Baxter NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% Viaflo is a solution of glucose (sugar) and sodium chloride in water. Glucose is one of the body’s energy sources. This solution for infusion provides 200 kilocalories per liter. Sodium and chloride are chemical constituents found in the blood. NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% Viaflo is used as a source of carbohydrates (sugar), to treat sodium depletion (loss of sodium from the blood and body), to treat extracellular dehydration (loss of water from the body after being sick or having had diarrhea, for example) or to treat you if you suffer from hypovolemia (low blood volume in the blood vessels).
Instructions for use
NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% Viaflo is administered by a doctor or nurse. The dosage and frequency of administration depends on your age, weight, condition and the reason for treatment. The dosage may also depend on other concurrent treatments. It should NOT be administered if the solution contains particles or the bag is damaged in any way.
Composition
The active substances in this medicine are glucose (sugar): 50 g per liter and sodium chloride: 9 g per liter. The remaining substance is water for injections.
Warnings
You should NOT be administered NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% Viaflo if you suffer from any of the following conditions: allergy to the product, extracellular hyperhydration, hypervolemia, fluid and sodium retention, severe renal dysfunction, uncompensated cardiac insufficiency, hypernatremia, hyperchloremia, generalized edema, ascites cirrhosis, uncompensated diabetes, and other states in which glucose is not tolerated.
Possible side effects
Like any medication, this drug can have side effects. Side effects associated with NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% itself include hypersensitivity reactions, hypernatremia, and hyperglycemia. Side effects that may be related to the route of administration include fever, chills, pruritus or rash, local pain or reaction and phlebitis.
Storage instructions
NaCl 0.9% + Glucose 5% should be stored in a safe place out of the reach of children. Unused solution should be destroyed. It should NOT be administered from a partially used bag.
