The active ingredient in DulcoSoft is macrogol 4000, an osmotic laxative. Macrogol 4000 is able to bind water to a high degree. It serves as a carrier for liquid (water) and slows the absorption of water in the intestine. This leads to an increased amount of water in the colon, softening hard stools and increasing stool volume. This leads to more movement in the intestines, facilitates defecation and provides a natural feeling of relief. Macrogol 4000 has a purely physical mechanism of action: it is hardly absorbed by the body and is excreted unchanged.
