Properties
Fec-O-test® is a new medical device for the early detection of microscopic (= occult) blood in the stool, which may indicate bleeding polyps, possible precursors of colon cancer. Fec-O-test® is a simple test, with quick and reliable results, which can be applied in your own familiar environment. Blood in the stool can indicate a variety of gastrointestinal conditions. Those conditions can have various causes, such as ulcers, polyps, colitis, anal fissures and colorectal cancer. Through visual examination, the disorders cannot be detected and the symptoms are often not noticeable. Only the presence of blood in the stool can reveal a gastrointestinal disorder. Beginning at age 45, detection of blood in the stool should be performed at least once a year. The Fec-O-test® is a highly specific, rapid, immunological test. With Fec-O-test® it is not necessary to follow a dietary period as for guaiactests. There is evidence that polyps, in most cases of early diagnosed disease, bleed only intermittently. Therefore, stool samples should be collected for 3 consecutive days to increase the likelihood of detecting bleeding to provide a more accurate diagnosis for the patient.
- Result in as little as 10 minutes.
Use instructions
Before performing the test, stool samples should be collected according to the sampling procedure listed below:
- Wash your hands with soap and rinse with clean water.
- The stool sample is collected on the special paper provided. Use a new paper every day.
- Screw the cap off the syringe and dip the stem (about 2 cm) into the stool sample in 3 different places.
- Inject the stool-covered stem into the tube containing the solution and screw the cap on firmly and shake. Put the syringe in its plastic bag and store in the refrigerator after each sampling.
- Discard the paper on which the stool was collected into the toilet bowl.
Do the test at the end of sampling 3 bowel movements:
- Tear open the aluminum bag (from the notch) and take out only the cassette. Discard the desiccant bag.
- Wait until the syringe is at room temperature before performing the test. Break off the tip of the syringe.
- Place the test cassette on a flat surface (e.g., a table) and squeeze the body of the syringe to add 6 drops into the sample well.
- Read the test result after 10 minutes. Do not interpret after more than 15 minutes.
Recommendations
- This test is for in vitro diagnostics only. For external use only. Do not ingest.
- The test is interpretable only if the instructions are strictly followed. Observe quantities and times indicated.
- Store between + 4°C and + 30°C. Do not freeze.
- Do not use after the expiration date indicated on the label and on the protective bag or if the bag is damaged.
