Fluorescein strips are used by (eye) doctors to detect abrasions or scratches on the cornea, small foreign objects or particles in the eye. Fluorescein is always used in conjunction with a slit lamp (ophthalmoscope). The combination of that lamp and fluorescein will accentuate the abrasions or abnormalities on the cornea. In addition, Fluorescein strips are also used by optometrists and opticians for fitting hard contact lenses.
