GALENPHOL paediatric linctus 2mg/5ml 90ml

Galenphol Paediatric Linctus is a non-productive cough suppressant for children aged 3 months to 12 years. It contains pholcodine, an opioid, that works by suppressing the cough reflex in the brain.

Dry coughs, also known as non-productive coughs, are characterised by a lack of mucus production. They are often caused by upper respiratory tract infections, such as colds or flu, or by environmental irritants, such as dust or smoke. These coughs can be particularly bothersome, especially at night when they can disrupt sleep.

Galenphol Paediatric Linctus reduces the frequency and intensity of the cough, providing temporary relief from the discomfort and irritation caused by a dry cough.

By suppressing the cough reflex, Galenphol Paediatric Linctus can help your child rest and recover from the underlying cause of the cough. It is important to note that this medication does not treat the underlying cause of the cough, but rather provides symptomatic relief.

Please note, Galenphol Paediatric Linctus should not be used for productive coughs, as suppressing these coughs can prevent the clearance of mucus from the airways.

If your child's cough persists for more than 5 days or is accompanied by other symptoms, such as fever or excessive mucus production, consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Galenphol Paediatric Linctus contains the active ingredient pholcodine. The linctus also contains: maltitol liquid (E965), sodium methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E219), sodium propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E217), amaranth (E123), Sunset Yellow FCF (E110), citric acid monohydrate, orange flavour, purified water.

Do not give this medicine to your child if they are allergic to any of the ingredients.

Children 6-12 years old: 2 x 5ml spoonfuls, no more than 3 doses in 24 hours.

Children 1-5 years old: 1-2 x 5ml spoonfuls, no more than 3 doses in 24 hours.

Children 3 months – 12 months: 1 x 2.5ml spoonful, no more than 3 doses in 24 hours.

Children under 3 months – not recommended.

Always follow the recommended dosage based on the child's age and consult a doctor if the cough persists for more than 5 days or is accompanied by other symptoms.

This medicine is suitable for children over the age of 3 months with a non-productive, dry and irritating cough.

The medication is not suitable for children under 3 months old, as they may be more sensitive to the effects of pholcodine. It should also not be given to children with known allergies to pholcodine or any of the other ingredients in the linctus.

It should be used with caution in patients with chronic bronchitis or bronchiectasis, as it may cause sputum retention.
