Gaviscon Advance forms a protective layer that floats on the surface of the stomach contents, preventing reflux and preventing contact of the stomach contents with the esophageal wall in order to relieve the symptoms of burning sensation in the stomach area and acid regurgitation.
- Treats symptoms caused by reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus, such as acid regurgitation, burning sensation in the stomach and indigestion.
- These symptoms may occur during pregnancy, after stomach surgery, reflux esophagitis or hiatus hernia.
How to use
Follow the instructions below for using Gaviscon Advance Unidose:
- Adults and children 12 years and older: take one to two 5ml scoops after meals and at bedtime.
- Children under 12 years of age: use this medicine only after medical advice.
- Tear along the perforated line. Squeeze the suspension at the bottom of the sachet directly into the mouth or into a 5ml measuring spoon.
- If your symptoms do not improve after seven days, contact your doctor.
Composition
The active ingredients in this medicine are 500 mg of sodium alginate and 100 mg of potassium bicarbonate per 5 ml of oral suspension. The other substances in this drug are calcium carbonate, carbomer, methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218), propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216), sodium saccharinate, peppermint flavoring and purified water.
Warnings
Do not use Gaviscon Advance Unidose if you are allergic to any of the substances in this medicine. Be extra careful with this medicine if you have been advised to follow a low-salt diet, if you have impaired kidney function or are on a controlled potassium diet. This medicine contains propyl parahydroxybenzoate (E216) and methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E218) which may cause an allergic reaction.
Possible side effects
Like other medicines, Gaviscon Advance Unidose can have side effects. Possible symptoms may include skin rashes, itching, difficulty breathing, dizziness or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat. Side effects that are rarely reported are diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. Contact your doctor if you experience any side effects.
