J Collis Browne's Mixture contains a low dose of anhydrous morphine, which helps the digestive tract to slow down the contractions of the intestine and allows more water to be absorbed from undigested food.
Peppermint oil is added to relax the spasms in the gut that cause stomach pains and upsets linked to diarrhoea.
J Collis Browne's Mixture is also used to relieve dry and unproductive coughs by suppressing the reflexes which produce coughing.
Do not use the medicine if you or your child have, an allergy to any of the ingredients, shallow breath or breathing difficulties, a head injury or persistent headache, asthma, taken MAOIs (Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors) for depression within the last two weeks, a blocked intestine or inflammation of your colon or rectum, an addiction to alcohol or if your child is under the age of 6.
