Lecrolyn contains the active ingredient sodium cromoglicate and belongs to a group of drugs called anti-allergics. Lecrolyn is used to treat eye symptoms caused by allergy. It works by stopping the release of natural substances, such as histamine, into your eyes. Those substances can lead to an allergic reaction. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include itchy, watery, red or inflamed eyes and swollen eyelids. Usually both eyes are affected. Usually these symptoms occur in spring or summer when pollen (pollen) from grasses or trees comes into contact with the eyes of individuals who are sensitive to them.
Instructions for use
The recommended dosage for children and adults is 1 to 2 drops in each eye twice a day. If the severity of the symptoms makes it necessary to drip more frequently, do so no more than 4 times a day.
- Wash your hands before opening the bottle.
- When you open a new bottle, drip one drop that you discard.
- Choose the position that is most comfortable for you for dripping the drops (you can sit down, lie on your back or stand in front of a mirror).
- Hold the bottle just below the cap and twist the cap to open the bottle. Make sure nothing touches the tip of the bottle to avoid contaminating the solution.
- Tilt your head back and hold the bottle over your eye.
- Pull down the lower eyelid and look up. Gently squeeze the bottle and drop a drop into your eye. Keep in mind that when you squeeze the bottle, it may take a few seconds for a drop to come out. Don’t squeeze too hard.
- Blink a few times to allow the drop to spread over the eye.
- Follow steps 2 through 4 of the instructions to drip this medicine into the other eye as well.
- Before putting the cap back on the bottle, shake once with the bottle facing down to remove any residual solution from the top. This is necessary to reuse the bottle.
Composition
The active substance in this medicine is sodium cromoglicate. 1 ml of solution contains 40 mg of sodium cromoglicate. The other substances in this medicine are glycerol, disodium deetate, polyvinyl alcohol and water for injections.
Warnings
Contact your doctor before using this medicine if you have symptoms in only one eye, because allergic reactions normally affect both eyes. If you also use other eye drops, wait at least 15 minutes between using them. Like other eye drops, this medication may cause blurred vision for a short time. If this happens, do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery until your vision is completely restored.
Possible side effects.
Like any medicine, Lecrolyn can have side effects. Not everyone gets them. Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity) have been reported, but it is not known how common they are. If you develop symptoms such as a rash, difficulty swallowing or breathing, swelling of your lips, face, throat, tongue and worsening redness, you should contact your doctor immediately. A common side effect (occurs in less than 1 in 10 users) is a burning sensation in the eye during the drip.
Storage instructions
Store this medicine below 25 °C. Do not store in the freezer. Do not use Lecrolyn Eye Drops after the expiration date. After opening a new bottle, the solution can be used for 8 weeks. Keep the bottle carefully closed.
