The Picc Line is a peripherally inserted central venous catheter. It is a flexible catheter placed in a vein above the elbow crease, the tip of which is positioned up to the vena cava superior, at the opening of the right atrium. With the Picc Line, the following intravenous treatments can be carried out both at home and in the institution: antibiotic therapy, parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, pain treatment, hydration. Blood sampling can also be done via a Picc line. A secure, pressure-neutral, needleless connector with antireflux valve. The Grip-lok® dressing allows for easy fixation of the Picc Line without sutures and ensures the catheter stays in place.

Recommendations

• Please read the package insert carefully prior to care.
• Replace after 7 days or whenever the dressing is wet or soiled or according to the prescribed protocol.
• Install the patient comfortably in the supine position.
• If the dressing becomes loose or soiled: change it completely.
• If the drip is running slowly: notify the hospital department.
• No reflux? The Picc Line may be clogged, notify the hospital ward.
• At the end of the infusion, injection or transfusion, pulse flush with 10 ml of NaCl 0.9% or 20 ml if blood or parenteral nutrition is involved (use a syringe of at least 10 ml).
• In case of redness, edema, pain at the insertion site or leaks, terminate the dressing change and notify the patient’s doctor or the hospital ward.
• The patient shows fever, chills, risk of infection: notify the doctor and/or the hospital ward.
• Handle the connector with compresses soaked with a prescribed antiseptic and always disinfect the end before injection or connection of an infusion (for min. 30″).
• Outside treatment periods: pulse flush the system with 10 ml of NaCl 0.9%, once a week (along with dressing change and connector change).
