Microlax is a laxative for rectal administration (through the anus) and is used whenever a lavement (enema) is required to treat constipation (constipation) and/or in preparation for X-ray examination or rectoscopy (inspection of the inside of the tip of the intestines). Microlax is a fast-acting lavement; it softens the stool without causing intestinal irritation. Among other things, Microlax contains sorbitol. That substance promotes bowel movement through a moisture-attracting effect. As a result, stools become less hard and bowel function is promoted.
