Momepax contains mometasone furoate, a medicine that belongs to a drug group called corticosteroids. When mometasone furoate is atomized into the nose, it can reduce inflammation (swelling and irritation of the nose), sneezing, itching and nasal congestion or runny nose. Momepax is used for symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis due to hay fever or other airborne allergens (such as dust mites, mold spores or animal dander).

Directions for use

The recommended dosage is two sprays in each nostril once a day. Once your symptoms are under control, you can reduce the daily dose to one spray in each nostril. If your symptoms get worse again, increase the dose to two sprays in each nostril once a day. Momepax does not provide symptomatic treatment of the attack, and regular intake over several days is required before the effects of treatment can be assessed.

Composition

The active substance in this drug is mometasone furoate. Each nebulization provides a measured dose of 50 micrograms of mometasone furoate (in the form of monohydrate). The other substances in this drug are microcrystalline cellulose, sodium carmellose, glycerol, citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate dihydrate, polysorbate 80, benzalkonium chloride, water for injection.

Warnings

It is recommended to consult a physician when symptoms of allergic rhinitis first appear. This is to rule out asthma and other underlying diseases. You should not use this medicine if you are allergic to any of the substances in this medicine, if you have an untreated infection in your nose, or if you have recently had nasal surgery or an injury to your nose. You should be extra careful with this medicine if you have or have ever had tuberculosis, if you have another infection, if you are taking other corticosteroids, either by mouth or in the form of injections, or if you have cystic fibrosis (cystic fibrosis).

Possible side effects

Like any medicine, Momepax can have side effects. Not everyone experiences them. Immediate hypersensitivity reactions (allergy) may occur after using this product. These reactions can be serious. You should stop using Momepax and seek medical help immediately if you experience the following symptoms: swollen face, tongue or throat, trouble swallowing, hives, wheezing or trouble breathing.
