Nizoral is a shampoo used for the external treatment and prevention of fungal diseases in adults and adolescents of 12 years and older. Nizoral Shampoo is especially suitable to treat scaly skin inflammations caused by a certain yeast (malassezia, formerly called pityrosporum). The inflammatory symptoms produced on the skin by that particular yeast species are known by the names of:
- Head dandruff.
- Seborrheic dermatitis.
- Pityriasis versicolor (superficial fungal disease of the skin).
How to use
Nizoral is intended for external use on the scalp and hairy skin. You wash the affected area of the skin with Nizoral Shampoo, taking care to wash the skin as well, not just the hair. Before rinsing, let the shampoo soak for 5 to 10 minutes.
Dosage
The number of applications will vary depending on whether you want to treat an existing inflammation or prevent an impending resurgence.
- To treat head dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis, use Nizoral twice a week for 2 to 4 weeks.
- For treatment of superficial fungal disease of the skin (pityriasis versicolor), use Nizoral once a day, for 1 to 5 days.
- For maintenance treatment, use the shampoo once a week or once every 2 weeks, depending on the result.
