Pollival contains the active ingredient azelastine hydrochloride, which belongs to a group of drugs called antihistamines. The action of antihistamines is to prevent the effects of substances, such as histamine, that the body produces as part of an allergic reaction. Azelastine has been shown to reduce inflammation of the eye. Pollival can be used for the treatment and prevention of eye conditions caused by hay fever (seasonal allergic eye conjunctivitis) in adults and children 4 years and older. Pollival can be used for eye conditions caused by an allergy to substances, such as dust mites or animal hair (eye conjunctivitis due to recurrent allergy) in adults and children 12 years and older. Pollival is not suitable for treating eye infections.
