How to use
The recommended dosage is:
- For mild stomach upset: take 1 bag of Riopan 800 mg/10 ml per day.
- For peptic ulcer: take 1 sachet of Riopan 800 mg/10 ml regularly 1 hour each time after the main meals and before bedtime. Stop treatment when symptoms disappear.
- In case of duodenal ulcer: higher doses and regular intake are required. Take 1 to 2 sachets of Riopan 800 mg/10 ml each time 1 and 3 hours after main meals, as well as before bedtime. Stop treatment when symptoms cease.
A daily dose of 6400 mg of magaldrate should not be exceeded. 6400 mg of magaldrate corresponds to 8 sachets of Riopan 800 mg/10 ml. The sachets should be well kneaded before use.
Composition
The active substance in Riopan is magaldrate. Riopan 800 mg/10 ml suspension for oral use contains 800 mg of magaldrate per 10 ml. The other substances in Riopan are arabic gum, hypromellose, maltol, caramel flavor, cream flavor, simethicone emulsion, sodium cyclamate, silver sulfate, chlorhexidine digluconate (20%) and purified water.
Warnings
You should not use Riopan if you are allergic to any of the substances in this medicine, or if you have severe kidney damage. Be extra careful with Riopan if you have severely impaired kidney function, if your digestive problems last longer than 14 days, with prolonged and repeated use, and if you are taking other medicines.
Possible side effects
The most serious side effects are neurotoxicity, encephalopathy, interference with phosphate metabolism, accumulation of aluminum and magnesium, and central nervous system suppression. Other possible side effects include soft and more frequent bowel movements, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, constipation, and allergic reactions.
How to store
Store Riopan at room temperature (15-25°C). Do not store in the refrigerator or freezer. Riopan should be protected from frost. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
