Cleen Enema is a solution for rectal use (administration along the anus). It is a laxative that promotes bowel movement. Cleen Enema contains phosphates that cause more water to enter the bowel. This makes the bowel movements softer. Cleen Enema is used in:

• The symptomatic treatment of constipation (constipation) whose cause is located in the lower part of the bowel.
• The preparation for surgical procedures and endoscopic examination of the rectum (examination of the rectum in which a flexible tube is inserted through the anus).
• Preparation for childbirth (in cases of persistent constipation).

How to use

Dosage

The recommended dose is 1 133 ml bottle of Cleen Enema (provides a 118 ml dose) not more than once a day or as directed by your doctor.

Administration

1. Lie on your left side with both knees bent and your arms resting in front of you.
2. Remove the green protective cap. Gently pull on the protective cap while holding the bottle upright and gripping it with your fingers at the grooves on the white cannula.
3. Gently insert the cannula (the tip of the bottle) into the rectum with a steady motion, keeping the tip pointing toward the navel. This prevents irritation and damage. Use caution with older adults or people with rectal problems (such as hemorrhoids).
4. Squeeze the bottle until almost all of the liquid has been expelled. Stop administering the enema if you feel any resistance. Forcing the enema can cause injury. NOTE: It is not necessary to empty the bottle completely. The bottle contains more liquid than is needed for effective use, so a small amount will always remain in the bottle.
5. Carefully remove the cannula from the rectum. It is normal to notice a small amount of enema fluid leaking out.
6. Remain in the same position until you feel a strong urge to have a bowel movement—usually within 2 to 5 minutes.

Composition

Each 118 ml dose contains 21.4 g (18.1% w/v) of sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate and 9.4 g (8.0% w/v) of disodium hydrogen phosphate dodecahydrate. The other ingredients are: benzalkonium chloride, disodium edetate, and purified water. The lubricant on the cannula is white, soft paraffin.

Warnings

Do not use Cleen Enema if you are allergic to any of the substances in this medicine, suffer from megacolon (enlargement of the colon), bowel obstruction or incomplete opening of the anus or rectum, Hirschprung’s disease (blockage of the colon), have a suspected blockage of the bowel, or suffer from paralytic ileus (disturbed bowel movement).

Possible side effects

Most side effects occur in people older than 65 years and children younger than 3 years. Possible side effects include hypersensitivity, dehydration, muscle cramps and tremors, painful or swollen abdomen, nausea or vomiting, pain at the level of the stomach, intestines, or anus, uncomfortable, itchy, burning, or painful feeling at the anus, blisters, diarrhea, and chills.

How to store

Store this medicine out of the sight and reach of children. Store at room temperature (15-25°C). Do not use Cleen Enema after the expiration date. Do not use Cleen Enema if you notice that the solution has discolored.
